New Pattern Release: Pineland

I’m really excited to announce my latest pattern release, Pineland! I know what you are thinking…another vest? Well, I love vests. I think they are the perfect knitting project because they don’t take a lot of yardage (so they are more financially affordable), they don’t take a lot of time (hello no sleeves!), and they make great layering pieces you can wear in multiple seasons. Okay, so now that I’ve sung all of the praises of vest knitting, here is Pineland:

It’s an asymmetrical vest that features lots of texture, both using an easy lace rib stitch as well as simple garter stitch. What I love most about it is its versatility. I love garments that can be worn in multiple ways depending both on personal preferences and different body shapes. I wanted the wearer to be able to decide after they knit up the vest how they would prefer to wear it (since you don’t really know for sure until you can put it on). So, a garter stitch band is worked on the left front (which can be used to sew buttons on later, or for stability if using a shawl pin like in the photograph) and a lacy rib stitch is worked on the right front (which can be used as buttonholes if you want it buttoned, or a shawl pin easily weaves in and out of the holes too). The collar can be worn down as in the photos, or worn up and scrunched if you use buttons. And you can decide all of this after it’s knit up and on your body.

It uses worsted-weight yarn–I used Quince & Co’s ‘Lark’ in the Honey colorway. Love how this yarn knits up and feels! If you live in the Portland, Maine area (or are visiting this summer), this sample will be at KnitWit yarn shop so you can try it on yourself. Below are some yarn ideas that would work for this pattern (all of which we sell at KnitWit too!):

  • Quince & Co ‘Lark’ (as used in the sample)
  • Quince & Co ‘Owl’
  • Malabrigo ‘Rios’ (in one of the more semi-solid colorways, otherwise the texture of the pattern won’t be as visible)
  • Knit One Crochet Too ‘Brae Tweed’ (for an ultra-soft and cozy feel!)
  • Berroco Ultra Alpaca
  • Swan’s Island Worsted

For more information about the pattern, you can check it out on Ravelry or on the pattern page on my website.
